The School of Arts at the University of Surrey hosts a packed day of superb performances by some of the best guitarists from Britain and beyond. Artists include chart-topping Australian guitarist Craig Ogden, Austrian steel-string maestro Thomas Leeb, virtuoso/composer Gary Ryan, popular guitarists Bridget Mermikides and Amanda Cook and jazz master John Wheatcroft.

Performances will include exquisite guitar music from the baroque era to contemporary electronica across a diversity of guitar styles from folk to classical to gypsy jazz.

The day also features a performance by EGO (The Eclectic Guitar Orchestra) providing a rare and exciting opportunity to hear these modern masters perform together, and with some very special guests. Proceeds will go to the Richard Hand Forget-Me-Not Memorial Fund in aid of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Hosted by Milton Mermikides (Lecturer, University of Surrey and Professor of Guitar, Royal College of Music) this promises to be a fantastic day for any fan of guitar music in all its wonderful forms.

Critically acclaimed classical guitar soloists Bridget Mermikides and Amanda Cook come together to perform a varied programme of solos and duos from the classical, romantic and contemporary repertoire.

14.00 Gary Ryan
Critically acclaimed classical guitar virtuoso and composer Gary Ryan performs a programme of classical guitar masterpieces alongside his stunning works from his hugely popular Visions and Vistas album.

15.30 Thomas Leeb
Austrian born Thomas Leeb plays a style he calls ‘the bastard child of acoustic fingerstyle’. With his unique and bewilderingly dextrous and percussive technique, he really has to be seen to be believed.

17.30 Craig Ogden
International recording and performing artist Craig Ogden delivers a stunning programme of masterpieces from the classical guitar repertoire and his two Number 1 classical albums.

19.00 The Eclectic Guitar Orchestra with special guests
The Eclectic Guitar Orchestra (aka Milton’s Big EGO) is an ensemble of superb guitarists from a wide range of styles performing together in arrangements of works, including The Beatles, Ellington, South American Folk and Bach. Artists from today’s guitar day will be joined by some very special guests in an exciting programme. Past EGOists have included the legendary John Williams and Paco Peña.

20.30 John Wheatcroft’s Ensemble Futur’
Guitarist John Wheatcroft’s Ensemble Futur’ seamlessly integrates the sound and approach of modern jazz with the timeless Franco-American swing of the legendary Django Reinhardt.
