String Quartet in F minor Op.95 Serioso
Piano Trio in E flat Op.70 No.2
Arguably one of the greatest of Beethoven’s string quartets, the Serioso is full of tension and was radical at the time, looking ahead to the style and mood of his later quartets.
Unjustly neglected, his Piano Trio Op.70 No.2 is often overshadowed by its more famous sister piece, the Ghost Trio (which can be heard in the afternoon concert). It is full of excitement and energy, and its subtle innovations are just as compelling as those in the Ghost Trio.
