English National Opera director Edward Gardner has been named among the Queen’s Birthday Honours list, being awarded an OBE for services to music.

The conductor, who last year became the youngest ever conductor to lead a Last Night of the Proms, joins an impressive roll call of musical personalities who will be more than familiar to Muso readers, with other OBE recipients including choir trainer Gareth Malone, violinist Tasmin Little and pianist Joanna MacGregor.

Opera director David McVicar receives a knighthood, and CBEs go to composer Michael Berkeley and Harry Christophers, founder and director of The Sixteen.

MBEs were given to composers Douglas Coombes and Ernest Tomlinson; Glyndebourne’s former head of education, Katie Tearle; and Joanna Wiesner, given the award for services to music and the arts in Bath.
