Sibelius/Lindberg Violin Concertos (Track 1 – Sibelius Violin Concerto, Allegro moderato)
Lisa BatiashviliSony BMG
Lovely Lisa has been a consistent source of delight to our ears
and eyes since making a name for herself on the competition circuit
as a teenager. Now in her mid-20s, she recently released her debut
recording on Sony BMG - a pairing of violin concertos by great
Finnish composers Jean Sibelius and Magnus Lindberg.
On this disc Batiashvili is accompanied by the Finnish Radio
Symphony Orchestra and conductor Sakari Oramo. While the Sibelius
concerto was recorded live during one of her concerts in May 2007,
Magnus Lindberg's concerto, written for her, was recorded in
the presence of the composer at the Helsinki House of Culture. She
first performed it in 2006 at New York's Mostly Mozart
Festival.
Batiashvili's first competition success came in 1995, when she
was awarded second prize at the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki.
She went on to be chosen as a BBC New Generation Artist and has
since performed all over the globe with orchestras including the
Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Chicago
Symphony Orchestra.
She currently lives in Munich, and her schedule is dominated by
performances across Germany - although she also performed in the UK
a couple of times during 2007.
