Joseph Phibbs and Edward Rushton were both commissioned by the scheme, which gives composers from a wide variety of musical backgrounds the opportunity to write for the LSO. Both composers are in their 30s.
Phibbs (pictured above), a former Purcell School and King's College, London student, will have his piece Shruti conducted by Vasily Petrenko on 13 February at Barbican Hall. Pianist Ayako Uehara will perform as soloist for a programme that also includes works by Rachmaninov and Shostakovich.
Rushton, whose Everything Goes So Fast debuts at Barbican Hall on 3 April, studied at Chetham's School of Music, King's College, Cambridge and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
The soloist for this programme - which also features Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky - will be Midori.
Selected works are rehearsed at least once a month prior to the performance, giving the composers a chance to make adjustments. They also receive feedback from LSO players and conductors on tempo, technical aspects and dynamics.
Since its establishment in 2005 Sound Adventures - soon to be renamed LSO/UBS Soundscapes: Pioneers - has handed 18 British composers the chance to write for the orchestra.
