Here's one to watch if energetic, talented, innovative young conductors are your thing - for professional reasons or otherwise.

The San Francisco Symphony's assistant conductor recently got out his baton at the Gustav Mahler International Conducting Competition, where he won third prize.

He's also been busy building himself a reputation for championing new music, and has conducted a number of world premieres by composers of his generation. In 2003 he founded the Philadelphia Sinfonietta, which presented world premieres with every concert.

Schwartz also studied in Philadelphia, at the University of Pennsylvania and at the Curtis Institute of Music.
