Biography
Since moving to London in 2006, Ben Marshall has become an active musician on the Classical and Alternative music scene. He currently studies at Trinity College of Music, Greenwich, under Tess Miller (former principal St Martins in the Fields). During his first year in London, Ben won the Harold Clarke Woodwind Prize with the Concerto in D Major attributed to Haydn. As a soloist, he has also performed Gabriel’s Oboe with The Becker Ensemble, a collection of professional players from London.

Ben takes a lot of enjoyment from his ensemble playing. As well as playing in the Trinity College of Music Sinfonia, Opera Orchestra, Wind Orchestra and many others, he also guests as principal oboe with many London orchestras. These include The London Irish Symphony Orchestra, Goldsmiths College Sinfonia, OperaGold, Meantime Opera, Camden Chamber Orchestra, The London Breakbeat Orchestra and The John Lewis Symphony Orchestra to name a few.

Ben is a founder member of the Fantasia Quintet, who, as well as performing in venues such as Charlton House, New Unity Church (Islington) and The Trafalgar Tavern (Greenwich), give educational workshops in primary schools in the south east London area. The most recent of which was given at Meridian School in Greenwich.

As well as performing, Ben currently teaches in Copland Community College, Wembley, where as well as teaching Oboe and theory, he also directs the schools Wind Orchestra. He also teaches at Hendon Music Service where he directs their double reed ensemble ‘Proof Reed’.

Ben plays on a Howarth XL, paid for with a grant he was awarded by The Royal Philharmonic Society in 2006.
