Oxfam shop receives record donation

Staff at the shop in Tavistock revealed that the donation
exceeded 4,000 vinyls, making it the largest of its kind. The
collection is believed to be worth in excess of £25,000, with
records spanning the ages - from Mozart and Haydn through to Cage
and Reich.
The donor is believed to be an anonymous widow. Jacky Theobold, the
store manager, said: 'We had a phone call, after what I
understand was a bereavement. She was ready to move on with her
life, as she put it, and we arranged for the records to be
collected - as you can imagine it cause an awful lot of logistical
issues.' Her late husband also owned a further collection of
900 CDs.
Some of the records have already gone on sale, fetching prices
between £1.99 and £150. The records will be sold online
after locals have had the opportunity to purchase them.
Oxfam recently auctioned a rare Rolling Stones demo, sheet music
signed by Vaughan Williams and a Handel musical score from 1786. It
raises around £5m a year from the sale of film and music
goods.
