Big Noise
Born in Zurich in 1977, Christian Poltera studied with legendary
cellist Heinrich Schiff in Salzburg and Vienna.
As a soloist he has now given concerts with orchestras including
the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra,
Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Northern
Sinfonia and the Orchestra dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia in
Rome.
His recordings so far include cello concertos by Dvorák, Toch
and Schoeck as well as chamber music on BIS, EMI, Chandos, Naxos,
Pan Classics, Avanti Classics and Tacet.
His latest disc, on the BIS label, sees him teaming up with
violinist Christian Tetzlaff, pianist Kathryn Stott and the
Malmö Symphony Orchestra for a recording of music by Arthur
Honegger.
Poltéra was a BBC New Generation Artist from 2004 to 2006, and
in 2004 he received a Borletti-Buitoni Award and for the 2006/2007
season.
