Guildhall celebrates new building with 'hard hat prom'

UK
10 November 2008

A rendering of the proposed Milton Court development

A UNIQUE OPEN-AIR CONCERT WILL TAKE PLACE IN LONDON THIS MONTH TO CELEBRATE THE GUILDHALL SCHOOL OF MUSIC & DRAMA'S NEW DEVELOPMENT, MILTON COURT, WHICH WILL OPEN IN 2012.

On 25 November, Paul Archibald, the school's head of woodwind, brass and percussion, will direct a 'hard hat prom' concert of music by Mussorgsky and Strauss, and John Williams' Star Wars theme. The concert will also include saxophone ensemble and samba band features.

Costing £90m, the Milton Court complex will include a 609-seat concert hall, a 225-seat theatre and a 128-seat studio theatre in addition to drama teaching and administration spaces.

Professor Barry Ife, principal of the Guildhall School, said: 'This concert is a small thank you to our neighbours for their patience while we redevelop Milton Court and a foretaste of future delights.'
