Amit Mann

A NEW WEBSITE CALLED IHATECLASSICALMUSIC.COM LAUNCHED THIS SUMMER – AND, DESPITE THE NAME, ITS AIM IS TO PROMOTE CLASSICAL MUSIC.

Creator music teacher Amit Mann plans to use the website to engage visitors with classical music in a fun, youthful and dynamic way. He offers weekly listening recommendations, while the site also provides news feeds, forums, composer profiles, Q&As, multimedia content and online shopping.

The 29-year-old Israeli said the website's controversial name was inspired by a CD called Opera for People who Hate Opera. 'I thought the name was absolutely wonderful,' Mann told Muso. 'It's so mind-bending you can never forget it. It's a fantastic line.'

Mann says that his site takes a 'light-hearted' approach to classical music, as opposed to an academic site that would only appeal to a small section of society. 'People get bored,' he believes, adding that you only get 5-10 seconds to catch someone's attention. 'There is no time for big intros and complicated words.'

Mann has already signed contracts with distributor Select Music and the Universal label to offer downloads, which will save users time and the hassle of going through sites like Amazon.

He currently spends 10-12 hours per week working on the website, which is his second priority after his day job at the London Music Centre, where he teaches the piano and organ.

iHateClassicalMusic.com currently has 600 visitors a week, with Mann planning to create further awareness through Facebook.
