James Bond composer joins Sibelius panel

International
08 October 2008
SIBELIUS NOTATION SOFTWARE HAS WELCOMED A NEW PANEL MEMBER TO ITS CURRENT STUDENT COMPOSER OF THE YEAR COMPETITION – JAMES BOND COMPOSER DAVID ARNOLD.

The competition is aimed at 11 to 18-year-olds and compositions can be created using any music software, not just Sibelius. Students must compose a one to four-minute piece for up to eight players in the contemporary/classical and jazz categories. A separate film category invites students to compose a soundtrack for a one-minute film clip.

Winners will receive a copy of Sibelius 5, the latest version of the software, plus a £500 cheque and a day in Abbey Road Studios with film composer Michael Price.

'There are still four weeks left to enter the competition and with the addition of a new judge, alongside legends such as Lord Puttnam, Howard Goodall and Django Bates, it really is an unmissable opportunity,' said Jeremy Silver, managing director of Sibelius.

The deadline for the competition, which is supported by the British Film Institute (BFI) and the National Film and Television School (NFTS), is 31 October. The public will then have the opportunity in November to vote for their favourite contestants via the Sibelius website, with the overall winner of the competition being announced in mid-December.
