Jose Iturbi Foundation splashes the cash
A HOST OF WINNERS WERE AWARDED SUBSTANTIAL CASH PRIZES AT THE JOSE ITURBI INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION, HELD ON THE CAMPUS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, LOS ANGELES LAST MONTH.
In the piano category, Ukrainian Mariya Kim was awarded first
place with Anastasia Markina of Russia coming runner-up - both were
also handed the Spanish Prize. Tommaso Cogato of Italy, Stepan
Simonian of Russia and Chetan Tierra of the USA came joint third,
with the latter also taking the People's Choice Award.

American soprano Angela Meade took first place in the voice category ahead of compatriots Andrew Garland and Nagunda Nobles, who came second and third respectively.
With a combined total of over $250,000 (£125,000) handed to winners from the Jose Iturbi Foundation, the contest is one of the most lucrative for solo piano and voice in the world.
