Libor Novacek won the Landor Records Competition in 2005,
leading to a long-term recording relationship with the artist-led
independent label. His first two discs explored music by
Janácek, Martinu, Ravel and Debussy, and his third zooms in on
the music of Hungarian giant Franz Liszt.
The Czech pianist's CD made quite an impression on Ferenc Liszt
Society, which awarded him the Diplôme d'Honneur at the
33rd Ferenc Liszt International Record Grand Prix. The Hungarian
awards were founded in 1975 to honour recordings of works by the
country's most famous composer, and previous winners include
Alfred Brendel, Leslie Howard and Vladimir Horowitz.
Born in Prague, Novacek studied with Joan Havill at the Guildhall
School of Music & Drama, graduating in 2004. He has worked
regularly with the Czechoslovak Chamber Orchestra and performed
with the Prague Chamber Orchestra, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra,
Brighton Philharmonic and English Sinfonia.
A top prizewinner at numerous international competitions, in 2006
he won fourth prize at the AXA Dublin International Piano
Competition.
