LIVERPOOL CAN NOW CLAIM THE TITLE OF ENGLAND'S MOST MUSICAL CITY AFTER TOPPING AN ONLINE POLL ORGANISED BY ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND'S TAKE IT AWAY SCHEME.
The Merseyside city received 49 per cent of the nation's
vote, pipping Sheffield during the poll's final week.
Liverpool's north westerly rival Manchester came third with
Leicester earning a surprising fourth place.
'Liverpool's music scene is renowned the world over,'
said Gordon Ross, music co-ordinator for the Liverpool Culture
Company. 'This award is great news for the city and should
serve to encourage those seeking to build on that legacy.'

As well as pop acts such as the Beatles and the Zutons, Liverpool boasts several classical music assets: Vasily Petrenko is the acclaimed conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, one of the oldest of its kind, and the Berlin Philharmonic conductor Sir Simon Rattle was born in the city.
Liverpool, which is currently enjoying its term as European Capital of Culture, is also the hometown of former BBC Young Musician of the Year Mark Simpson and composers Kenneth Hesketh, Stephen Pratt and John McCabe.
To coincide with the poll, Musolife.com recently asked visitors to vote for England's Least Musical City. From a shortlist of four, Hull was the clear winner with 60 per cent of the vote, while Norwich scooped 19 per cent and Portsmouth and Coventry received 11 and 10 per cent respectively.
