Mason Bates has been leading a cunning double life - as a Rome Prize winner and Young Concert Artists composer-in-residence by day, and a globetrotting, turntable-spinning, laptop-touting DJ named Masonic by night.
But now Muso has exposed him (although not as much as we'd like
to).
The Juilliard-trained American composer is the recipient of two
American Academy awards and has had his music performed by leading
orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic as part of its
Green Umbrella new music series.
As DJ Masonic, he has already spun at venues like Rome's
Metaverso, Berlin's Kinzo and Zu Mir Oder Zu Dir, and San
Francisco's Magnet Lounge. Let's hope he doesn't get
too many late nights and ruin those youthful.
