MBF set to reward Young Talent

The awards offer a total of up to £150,000 to
instrumentalists aged 18 or under in all areas of music. In 2007
almost 200 young musicians benefited with individual awards ranging
from £200 to £1,000.
Under-18s can use the funding for private music lessons, purchasing
an instrument or towards the fees or travel expenses of Saturday
music study. From this year 18-year-olds who are about to enter
university or college can also apply for awards towards instrument
purchasing.
Applicants, who should be British, Irish or UK residents, must have
achieved a 'Distinction' level in their most recent
practical exam or be able to prove equivalent outstanding talent.
Their parents or guardians must also be able to demonstrate
financial need.
Clarinettist Mark Simpson (pictured above), the BBC Young Musician
of the Year in 2006, is among the recent recipients of the Young
Talent Awards.
