The talented 37-year-old hit the headlines in December with a
series of bi-weekly improvisation sessions recorded in her living
room and streamed through her website. She invites visitors from
around the world to suggest 50-word themes.
Montero studied at London's Royal Academy of Music before
making her EMI Classics debut, Piano Recital, in 2005. She
following it with a CD of Bach and Bach-based themes in 2006, and
will release a disc of baroque pieces this month.
Montero started improving at the age of four and is noted for
creating her own improvisations that draw on jazz, tango and blues.
At the end of solo concerts, she often invites the audience to
suggest themes for an encore.
Commenters on Newsnight's blog have so far suggested Martin
Luther King's 'I have a dream' speech, Metallica, Led
Zeppelin and Motörhead songs, and the theme from Steptoe and
Son as topics to address.
Montero will appear on BBC Two's Newsnight programme shortly
after 11pm tonight.
