LMM combines education, performance opportunities, mentoring and awards, with its primary aims to encourage young children to take up an instrument and young adults to enter the professional world.
Eight months of research into opportunities for young violinists
was conducted prior to the launch and the scheme is supported by
the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), the Royal College of Music
and Wigmore Hall.
The initiative will focus its energy on two principal projects: The
Bridge Project, aimed at providing educational support to
underprivileged London children with the potential to become
musicians; and London International Violin Masters (LIVM).
LIVM aims to provide professional support and performance
opportunities for promising violinists between the ages of 18 and
26. An initial set of 18 players will be reduced to nine, and then
to four who will be invited to perform a recital programme with the
LPO at Queen Elizabeth Hall. They will also receive a package of
further engagements, financial support, career development help and
mentoring.
The first triennial London International Violin Masters will take
place in February and June 2009.
