Biography
Nikos Katsarakis was born in Heraklion, Crete in 1974. He started his studies at the age of 16. After four years of studies, he was awarded his degree in Classical Guitar and afterwards his Diploma in Soloist Guitar with Costas Cotsiolis. During his studies in guitar he also studied, Harmony and Counterpoint with the composer Spyros Mazis.
In June 2001 he was granted the Performance Diploma LLCM from London College of Music and the following year the Performance Diploma FLCM of London College of Music and also the FTCL from Trinity College of Music. At the same time, he was successfully accepted from the Mozarteum University in Salzburg - Austria where he attended the classes of Eliot Fisk. He also attended classes of Wolfang Gutmann, Maria Isabel Siewers and Agustin Wiedeman as well as the Contemporary Music with Simone Fonatanelli, Baroque Music with Jorgen Huebscher, Renaissance Lute with Johann Bruederl and other reknowned artists. In June 2005 he graduated with "Bakauloreat Artium" (Bachelor of Arts) and in January 2009 with "Magister Artium" (Master of Arts) in Solo Guitar Performance.
Along with his studies he worked on the following thesis: "The Composer Mikis Theodorakis", "Manuel Ponce and his contribution to the Classical Guitar" and "Pedagogical ideas of Adamantios Korais" with Pr. Michaela Schwarzbauer. He has participated in many masterclasses with well known guitar soloists such as Marco Socias, Annielo Desiderio, Jesus Castro Balbi, Hubert Kappel, Thomas Miller Pering , Zoran Dukic and many others.
Nikos Katsarakis has performed in different cities of Greece and Austria. He has collaborated with Soprano Myrsini Margariti at the “Jehudi Menuhin live music now” in Austria for the concert organization. In the past he had performed as soloist with the Blasphilharmonisches Orchester Sahausen - Heidelberg.
At the time Nikos Katsarakis is Professor and Director of the Municipal Conservatory of Nea Alikarnassos - Heraklion Crete.
