Pianist Joanna MacGregor signs to Warner Classics & Jazz

International
07 November 2009

On key: Joanna MacGregor

THE WARNER CLASSICS & JAZZ LABEL ANNOUNCED AT THE END OF OCTOBER THAT IT HAS TAKEN ON THE ACCLAIMED ARTIST ALONG WITH HER OWN LABEL, SOUNDCIRCUS

MacGregor will kick off her relationship with Warner Classics & Jazz (WCJ) by releasing three new recordings in 2010, the first of which will be entitled Live in Buenos Aires. To celebrate the album's release on 8 February, MacGregor and the Britten Sinfonia will perform pieces from the record at the Roundhouse, London, on 23 January.

MacGregor is admired for her experimental approach to the piano. In the past, she has collaborated with composer Nitin Sawhney and tabla player Talvin Singh, and her album Play was nominated for the 2002 Mercury Music Prize; elsewhere, she has worked on arrangements of Tom Waits, Moondog and Nick Cave songs.

MacGregor's label SoundCircus, which she founded in 2008, will retain the rights to all of her compositions and recordings, and continues as an imprint of WCJ. Reissues of the pianist's entire back catalogue, available in both CD and digital formats, are also scheduled for the coming year.

Next year's Deloitte Ignite Festival - held at the Royal Opera House, London - will be curated by MacGregor.
