Quint left the 285-year-old instrument in the back of a taxi
while returning home from the airport in April. Soon realising his
mistake, a distressed Quint alerted police and contacted the taxi
commission where he studied photographs of the drivers on their
books. Mohamed Khalil continued his rounds across New Jersey and
New York, unaware of the missing instrument he carried, until he
received a call from the Port Authority.
Khalil immediately returned to the taxi stand and reunited the
instrument with its owner. Quint rewarded the honest driver with a
$100 (£50) tip before promising to express his gratitude with
a special concert.
The show, which featured Michael Bacon, brother of actor Kevin, on
guitar for a blues number, lasted 30 minutes. Quint and his
Stradivarius will next appear in the Big Apple in late September,
when he will provide free tickets for Khalil and his family.
