Big Noise
Twenty years after being discovered as a child prodigy,
violinist Sarah Chang has finally decided to tackle Vivaldi's
seminal Four Seasons on EMI Classics.
Although still in her 20s, Chang is already a seasoned (no pun
intended) recording artist. Her CDs to date include Fire and Ice,
an album of popular shorter works for violin and orchestra with
Plácido Domingo and the Berlin Philharmonic, a disc of chamber
music for strings with current and former members of the Berlin
Philharmonic, and the Dvorák Violin Concerto with the London
Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis.
'I've always wanted to record The Four Seasons but was
always very aware that it is arguably one of the most popular and
recorded pieces in the violin repertoire,' she told Muso.
'I wanted to ensure I was absolutely comfortable and had lived
with The Four Seasons for a while.'
Born in Philadelphia to Korean parents, Sarah Chang studied at the
Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay. She has performed with most of
the world's major orchestras including the New York
Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the
Boston Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic,
the Vienna Philharmonic, and all the principal London orchestras.
In 1999, at the age of 18, she received the Avery Fisher Prize -
one of the most prestigious awards given to instrumentalists.
