Young promoters invited to make their mark

UK
27 June 2008

Curious Generation co-founders Alex Martin, left, and Charles Baybutt

A NEW INITIATIVE BY LIVE MUSIC PROMOTER CURIOUS GENERATION AND NATIONAL ENTERPRISE CAMPAIGN MAKE YOUR MARK AIMS TO INSPIRE YOUNG BRITISH PROMOTERS.

Make Your Mark in Music, which applies to all genres of live music including classical, is aimed at people aged 18-30 with a passion for supporting their local music scene and an interest in running regular events.

Curious Generation will provide advice, financial support and the chance to network and gain valuable industry experience. The programme will run alongside the promoter's normal work or study.

Co-founders Alex Martin and Charles Baybutt say that they are keen to hear from those keen to get into live music promotion, but who are unsure how to go about it or struggling due to lack of support.

'The promoter's job requires brilliant contacts, from agents and music labels to management and press,' said Martin. 'This is a unique chance to build up those contacts and get established in the business with a bit of support from us.'

Make Your Mark's Hannah Bourne added: 'This is a very special opportunity for young people to get a foothold in the music business and be entrepreneurial while doing something they love. What better way to make money than promoting gigs and liaising with the hottest acts and venues?'
