Si Jing Ye scoops Bachauer piano competition

The young pianist, now a New York resident, won over a 10-member jury at the Salt Lake City event with his performance of Tchaikovsky's Concerto in B flat minor. Ye pipped five other contestants to the gold medal, and came away with $8,000 (£4,000).
Kenric Tam, 18, of California, earned second place and Spaniard
Jonathon Flori, 18, came third. The finals featured 29 competitors
aged 14-18 from 11 countries.
The competition, named after the late Greek concert pianist,
launched in 2003 and is backed by the Utah Symphony Orchestra. The
shortlist was chosen following a stringent selection process based
on the results of preliminary competitions held in cities around
the world.
The foundation's junior competition, for 11- to 13-year-olds,
also took place in June.
