Music at Menlo

Guest blog from Music@Menlo

5th August - 18:29

We're in the last few days of the festival now and there are mixed emotions among everyone. I think the staff are definitely starting to hit exhaustion point though we got a nice break with a party on Monday and a dark night on Tuesday. The students are mellowing out, but still have two more concerts to go.

Still, Chrissy and I can't believe how quickly these three weeks have passed. Yesterday Chrissy organised a scavenger hunt for the kids at lunch. We had gone round the campus last week looking for clues that they could find and then take funny photos with. They had to do things like form their mentors' initials with their bodies and take a picture worshipping one of their coaches. They had a great time and we should have some excellent pictures out of it that we can use as keepsakes.

Though it seems like not that long ago we were organising airport pick-ups, we're now figuring out the departure schedule for this weekend. All the students finish coachings on Friday and the older students leave on Saturday so we're putting together some logistics for that.

After the festival ends all the interns will be around for another week compiling our binders for next year's interns and breaking down the festival. But it's not over yet... our last concert cycle should be great as it involves contemporary music and one with over 100 pieces of percussion!
