The 32-year-old has been appointed principal guest conductor with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra (SCO), for a three-year term beginning next spring.
Znaider has previously made appearances as a guest conductor with the Russian National Orchestra, Royal Danish Orchestra and the Mariinsky Orchestra on the invitation of Valery Gergiev. He also has conducting engagements lined up with the English Chamber Orchestra, Dresden Staatskapelle, New Zealand Symphony, Melbourne Symphony, Swedish Radio Symphony, Bergen Philharmonic and Malmö Symphony orchestras.
Born in 1975, the Danish violinist will be the first principal guest conductor of the SCO. The Örebro-based orchestra, under the baton of music director Thomas Dausgaard, has developed a reputation for developing unusual, adventurous programmes. The 38-piece ensemble has established close ties with Baroque specialist Andrew Manze and composer HK Gruber among others.
Znaider will make his SCO debut on 26 February 2009 with a programme of Schumann and Brahms. Further performances will focus on Brahms, Mozart and contemporary works including the world premiere performance of Jan Sandström's Flute Concerto in April.
