Velitchka Yotcheva’s bouquet of passionate performance, perfect technique and rich repertoire, covering Baroque, Classical and Modern composers, is what makes her concerts and records highly appreciated by the music lovers and the critics worldwide.
Velitchka Yotcheva was born in Bulgaria where she took private lessons with Bulgarian cellist Tacho Tachev. After winning two competitions in her native Bulgaria, she entered the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow at age 18, where she studied with Valentin Feigin and Marina Tchaikovskaya, who was an assistant to Mstislav Rostropovich, and chamber music with Alexander Korchagin, a member of the Shostakovich Quartet. She completed her master's degree in 1992, followed by a doctoral degree in 2000 at the University of Montreal, where she studied under Yuli Turovsky. Since 1995, Velitchka Yotcheva has made Canada her home, using it as a perfect basis for her concert, recording and teaching engagements worldwide.
