Simone Osborne, Edward Parks, In-Sun Suh (l-r)

SOPRANO SIMONE OSBORNE, BARITONE EDWARD PARKS AND PIANIST IN SUN SUH WERE NAMED AS WINNERS OF THE MARILYN HORNE FOUNDATION VOCAL COMPETITION, WHICH TOOK PLACE ON 26 JULY AT THE MUSIC ACADEMY OF THE WEST IN SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA.

Winners of the contest - named after the renowned concert and opera singer - will be presented with their awards in separate recitals in New York City. Suh's presentation has been slated for 5 October at Christ and St Stephen's Church, with Parks and Osborne's recitals yet to be announced.

The event is a showcase for the institution's singers and vocal pianists. The foundation prizes are awarded each year in honour of long-time faculty member Gwendolyn Koldofsky.

A panel including Marilyn Horne herself, vice president at Columbia Artist Management Michael Benchetrit, executive director of the Marilyn Horne Foundation Barbara Hocher, and pianist and opera conductor Kenneth Merrill selected the winners.

Encouragement Awards were also made, with vocalists Zachary Altman, Julie Davis, Adam Hall, Adam Lau, Ana Mihanovic, Andrew Owens, Joshua Stewart and Janette Zilioli the recipients alongside pianist Lucas Wong. Each took home cash prizes of $500 (£250).
