Young violinist Vilde Frang signs to EMI

International
26 June 2009

Vilde Frang

NORWEGIAN MUSICIAN WILL RELEASE DEBUT CD FOR THE LABEL IN 2010.

Norway's Vilde Frang has signed a recording deal with EMI Classics, it has been announced.

Her first record for the label, scheduled for release on 18 January 2010, will feature the Sibelius Violin Concerto, three Humoresques and Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No 1.

'It was Vilde's performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto that first caught our attention,' commented Stephen Johns, vice president of A&R at EMI Classics. She plays with 'great fervour and depth', he added.

Frang, born in 1986, made her debut at the age of 10 with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. She currently studies under Ana Chumachenco at the Kronberg Academy, where she is completing a Further Master Studies programme with an Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation scholarship.

Her debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra came in 2007, after which she was invited to perform at the Royal Festival Hall in May 2009.

Frang is the recipient of an array of prizes, including a fellowship from the Borletti-Buitoni Trust and the 2009 Norwegian Soloist Prize.

In advance of her upcoming album, she can be seen performing at Wigmore Hall with Julien Quentin (piano) on 6 July, and at the Cheltenham Festival with the Hallé Orchestra and Edward Gardner on 18 July.
