ZUILL BAILEY, THE 35-YEARD-OLD EL PASO, TEXAS-BASED CELLIST, HAS JOINED TELARC’S ROSTER OF ARTISTS.

According to a statement released by Telarc, the Peadbody and Juilliard graduate's 'rare combination of compelling artistry, technical finesse and engaging personality' influenced the label's pursuit of him.

'It is a great pleasure that I join in an exclusive partnership with Telarc,' said Bailey. 'Their tradition of artistic excellence, along with their innovative achievements in sound recording, represent everything I strive for as a musical artist. This promises to be an amazing journey.'

His first Telarc disc, recorded with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra and scheduled for 13 January 2009, will feature Russian masterworks including Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No 1 and Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme, Pezzo Capriccioso and Nocturne.

Bailley has previously released Saint Saëns and Beethoven cello sonatas, and worked with pianist Simone Dinnerstein.

Telarc president Robert Woods commented: 'Zuill's musical talent is world-class, and he is a delightful throwback to artists who possess charisma and entertain an audience while being true to music in every way.

'His efforts on behalf of mentoring young talent and spending time with young musicians and students whenever he is out on engagements is exemplary,' Woods added about the cellist, who is a professor at the University of Texas in El Paso. 'We are delighted to work with someone who cares so much about classical music, its future, and spreading it to new audiences at every opportunity.'
